About the 2-Week Summer Program

Our 2-Week Summer Program, hosted by Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, offers a transferable-credit "World Food & Culture" course and a variety of activities, including cultural experiences, field trips, and city tours.

Why the 2-Week Summer Program

    • Upon successful completion of the course, one copy of your official transcript from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics will be mailed/emailed to your home institution or any other required location.
  • VALUABLE CULTURAL IMMERSION
    • The program's cultural experiences stand out for their immersive engagement with traditional Chinese practices, including Kongfu, painting, paper-cutting, and tie-dye, blending authentic cultural exploration with Chengdu’s unique charm.
  • FIELD TRIPS AND CITY TOURS
    • The field trips and city tours feature culinary-focused excursions (Sichuan Hotpot, Sichuan Dish Museum) and cultural/scenic visits (Kuanzhai Alleys, Chengdu Art Museum, Tea & Sichuan Opera).

World Food and Culture 

Students will explore engaging questions about the development of Sichuan cuisine—including impacts of location, biodiversity, migration, social class, trade, cultural perceptions, and modern conveniences—through informative and fun methods, offering field learning opportunities to help students appreciate the diversity, history, and economy of Sichuan’s rich cuisine and culinary ethnobotany while comparing with multiple other geographic regions and cultural groups worldwide.
