Scholarships

Chengdu Mayor’s Achievement Award (RMB15,000, or about $2,200)

Eligibility:

  • Non-Chinese Citizens
  • Spring, Fall, and Summer Semester
  • Must complete the program
  • No application needed

This is an award provided by the Mayor's office of the Municipal Government of Chengdu. The amount is 15,000 RMB (approximately $2,200) for semester programs and 5,000 RMB (approximately $730) for summer programs. The scholarship will be granted upon successful completion of the program in China (including physically presented in Chengdu through the program duration.) 

G-MEO Merit Based Scholarship ($600)

Eligibility:

  • All students
  • Summer programs only
  • GPA ≥ 3.3  at the time of program application
  • No application needed

All students participating in the summer programs will be considered for the $600 merit-based scholarship upon submitting the program application. This amount will be deducted directly from the program fee.

G-MEO/AIEF Chengdu American Center Scholarship Program ($900 – $1,800)

Eligibility:

  • GAP ≥ 3.0 at the time of program application
  • Semester programs only
  • 500-word essay is required
  • Financial Award Letter

Deadline: 4/15 Fall, 11/15 Spring

This is a merit/need-based Scholarship provided by g-MEO and AIEF. The scholarship ranges from 6,000 to 12,000 RMB (approximately $900-$1,800) in total paid in monthly installments while students are in Chengdu.

G-MEO Chengdu American Center Travel Grant ($500)

Eligibility:

  • GPA ≥ 3.0 at the time of program application
  • Semester programs only
  • 500-word essay is required
  • Financial Award Letter

Deadline: 4/15 Fall, 11/15 Spring

This is a need-base scholarship for student demonstrates financial need. The recipient will receive up to $500 to assist their trip abroad.


 

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program

The scholarship supports U.S. undergraduates of high financial need at 2-year or 4-year U.S. colleges or universities to study or intern abroad. Awards are granted for fall, spring, and academic year terms of up to $5,000 or $8,000 for studying a Critical Need Language, such as Chinese Mandarin.

Boren Scholarship and Fellowship

Funding from the National Security Education Program (NSEP) supports U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in regions critical to U.S. interests including Asia. Up to $20,000 is awarded to undergraduates. Recipients commit to work in the federal government for at least one year after they graduate.

The Fund for Education Abroad

The scholarship awards up to $10,000 in summer, semester, and academic year and are not limited to specific study abroad programs, destinations, or fields of study. FEA will award funds for students planning to study abroad on academically rigorous programs with a preference for underrepresented students.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Sponsored by the U.S. government,this is a merit-based scholarship to provide students the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.

Freeman Award for Study in Asia

The scholarship is provided to U.S. students studying abroad in East or Southeast Asia that demonstrates financial need. Students can be awarded up to $3,000 for summer and up to $5,000 for semester programs.

Confucius Institute Scholarship

Confucius Institute Headquarters  launches the “Confucius Institute Scholarships” program to provide sponsorship to students, scholars and Chinese language teachers of other countries for pursuing a study in  relevant universities in China.
