Chengdu Talents’ Day

Invited by the Chengdu High-Tech Zone, G-MEO students participated in the annual Chengdu Talents’ Day Event this week. The High-Tech Zone is one of the most promising business areas in Chengdu. During the event, they not only got a chance to learn about foreigner working policies in Chengdu but also shared their own internship experiences with local companies.

At the end of the event, G-MEO students also met with some HR managers from Fortune Global 500 companies to better understand their expectations for future employees. This helped them prepare for their future career as well as build their professional network with people around the world.

Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone

Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone (Chinese: 成都高新技术产业开发区: Chéngdū Gāoxīn Jìshù Chǎnyè Kāifā Qū) was approved as one of the first national hi-tech development zones in 1991. In 2000, it was open to APEC and has been recognized as a national advanced hi-tech development zone in successive assessment activities held by China's Ministry of Science and Technology. It ranks 5th among the 53 national hi-tech development zones in China in terms of comprehensive strength.

Half of the world’s laptop chips and two-thirds of all iPads are produced in Chengdu. The city’s IT industry generated 480 billion yuan in revenue last year. This figure is expected to reach 1 trillion yuan by 2020, according to the city’s plan. Chengdu’s GDP surpassed 1.2 trillion yuan last year, an increase of 7.7 percent from a year earlier.

Students Voices

International Talents’ Day was a worthwhile event to attend. We met international professionals that taught us the cross-cultural differences in international work environments. They were also kind enough to listen to our international experiences and recommend ways that we can improve ourselves in the future. -- Alex Gulino, AU

The event was unlike anything I’ve experienced. The opportunity to network with students from all over the world, hearing stories from people in different professions and from my own peers was truly great. As an international business major student, the event gave me a chance to network as well as connect with a variety of individuals. -- Sariette Ekambi, FDU
